Calibrate headset boundary for a station
Overview
The following guide describes how to map the virtual boundary in Steam to fit the LED ring of a single Lumination Learning Lab station.
If you receive a prompt from SteamVR advising to perform room setup in order to use a station, follow the below instructions.
Start room setup
If you haven’t received a prompt but need to perform room setup:
- Open the Steam VR app
- Click
, and then select Room Setup
- Continue with the steps below.
Please note, performing room setup will only calibrate the boundaries for the station that it has been run on. If you receive this prompt on multiple stations, you will need to calibrate each station’s play area using the below process.
It is also worth noting that you should not wear the headset whilst performing the calibration process.
Performing room setup
Select Room-Scale to begin setting the boundary for a station.
Make some space.
Ensure that the headset, controllers and headset stand are the only items other than yourself within the LED ring. This will ensure that the base stations have every opportunity to track the hardware during calibration.
With the mousepad, click next when you are ready to continue.
Establish tracking
Press the power button on each of the controllers and wait for SteamVR to detect that they are powered on. Once they are powered on, you should see ‘Controller Ready’ highlighted in Steam.
Locate your monitor
Point one of the controllers at the projector screen and squeeze the trigger until the loading bar fills completely. Once full, click next to continue.
Locate the floor
Place both controllers upside down on the floor at either side of the headset stand.
Press the trigger button on one of the controllers and wait for the loading bar to fill.
Click next to continue to the next step.
Next, we’ll create some boundaries
Click next to continue.
Draw a boundary
Select ‘Advanced Mode’
Pick up one of the controllers and hold it about 10-15cm outside of the LED ring. Walk around the LED ring, clicking the trigger every step until you make as close to a perfect circle as possible.
It may take a couple of tries to get it quite right, and if you don’t set a large enough boundary Steam will tell you when you click next if you receive a red square inside the boundary.
If this happens, click ‘back’ and try again until you see a green square on the next page. Click next to continue when you are happy with the boundary that you have set.
Setup complete
You’re all set! Click next to finish and your station is ready to launch VR experiences.
