The four learning phases—Awareness, Fundamental, Skilled, and Mastery—represent a structured progression in developing expertise with XR (Extended Reality) technology for educational purposes.
In the Awareness phase, educators familiarise themselves with XR hardware, resources, and basic functionality, making their first attempts at using XR in lessons. The Fundamental phase focuses on hands-on creation of 3D assets and environments, integrating XR into subject-specific lessons. In the Skilled phase, educators refine their abilities by collaborating with peers, designing full XR lessons, and troubleshooting issues. The Mastery phase emphasises advanced skills, including AI integration, differentiated instruction, and leadership, with educators mentoring peers and driving successful XR lab implementation.
Together, these phases provide a clear roadmap for educators to develop from basic awareness to mastery of XR tools and their application in teaching.
