Task Summary
Unlock the mysteries of 3000 years ago by visiting one of the most extravagant tombs in Egypt’s Valley of the Queens – the tomb of Queen Nefertari.
Students will explore the Ancient Egyptian tomb of Queen Nefertari and examine the significance of the various artwork and hieroglyphic inscriptions found inside.

Students are expected to:
- Have some background knowledge on using Immersive Reality (IMVR) Headsets.
- Have an understanding of different historical sources such as Ancient Egyptian artwork and mummified remains.
Teachers should make sure that:
- Devices are charged (if using)
- Students are able to access YouTube videos.
- The teacher presentation slide deck has been checked.
- A padlet, which is an online collaboration board for students, has been created and the link shared on the presentation slide deck for students.
- A copy of the Student Digital Notebook – Ancient Egyptian Tombs has been distributed to students and they have downloaded/ made a copy
- Students are divided into pairs or groups, depending on how many devices are available. A suggested rotation cycle may be:

Learning Sequence
Station 1 – IMVR
- Station 1 – IMVRStudents will navigate the Ancient Egyptian Tomb of Queen Nefertari using the app Nefertari: Journey to Eternity .
- There are 4 rooms to explore, each with different inscriptions and significance.
- Students answer the questions on pages 5, 7, 9 and 11 in the student digital notebook.
Station 2 – HHVR
- Station 2 – ResearchStudents will respond to the following questions on pages 13 & 14 of the student digital notebook about Queen Nefetari Playing Senet.
- Provide a brief description of the source
- What is the significance of the game “senet”
- Who would have created it?
- What is the purpose of this artwork?
- What does this tell us about Ancient Egyptian women?
- What are the limitations of this source?
- What other questions do you have about it?
Station 3 – Augmented Reality
- In pairs, students use the Civilisation AR App to answer the following questions on pages 17-19 of the student digital notebook:
- What time period do we believe the mummy was from?
- What do we know about who the mummified body was?
- What materials was the coffin made from and what were its dimensions?
- Explain what was unique about this particular discovery
- Where can the mummy be found today?
- How does this discovery continue to be a legacy of Ancient Egypt?
Instruct students to take screenshots of the ‘Mummy in Egyptian Coffin’ and include this in their digital notebook.
